Williston Annexation Will Begin With Address Changes | Video

By Evan Kruegel | 2/26/2013

Now that the Northern Annexation Plan has been approved, some changes to Williston`s infrastructure are on the way. Among the first things to happen will be address changes to the northern part of the city. The annexation includes nearly 5000 acres of land, stretching North to County road 6 and the Love`s Truck Stop. Any business or residence within that zone will be switched over to a city mailing address. This will be a huge help for emergency personnel, who until this point, had to quickly decide which department was responsible for what given area. The process will take some time, as city and county officials decide on the best way to organize street names and numbers. Officials say the re-mapping of addresses has been needed for a long time.

"Even if we didn`t annex, we needed to do that, simply because we had a mix. We would go from city addressing to county and back and forth, and it was very confusing for people. So it`s something we had thought about doing before. It`s inconvenient for a lot of people and we understand that, and I appreciate those who are frustrated because they`re saying `now I have to change my letterhead and addresses on everything`, but if you look at the big scope of things, it will be better once we get it done.. and we trust that people will cooperate and go along with that”, says Mayor Ward Koeser.

The entire process should take between two and three months.
