Kiefer Pleads Not Guilty

Retha Colclasure | 3/5/2013

A Morton County rancher accused of letting about 100 horses starve to death on his ranch near New Salem will continue to take his case to trial. William Kiefer did not appear at a preliminary hearing this morning on five misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty. His attorney, Jodi Colling, pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

Because the case is a misdemeanor, Kiefer was not required to appear. His next court hearing will be later this month in Burleigh County.
