Highway Patrol Catches More Overweight Trucks | Video

Jennifer Joas | 3/5/2013

With more than 9,000 semis on the roads in western North Dakota every day, it is no wonder roads are taking a beating. But it is not just the number of trucks. It is that many trucks exceed the weight restrictions.

The Highway Patrol concentrated on the areas around New Town, Stanley and Parshall last week. And 10 of the 14 vehicles troopers checked were overweight.

"It is disheartening that we still find that many vehicles overweight out on the roads when they definitely know that they can`t be driving with such excessive weights on their trucks," said Sgt. Tom Iverson, Highway Patrol.

Drivers of the overweight semis were assessed more than $22,000 in fines.
