Ducks Unlimited says the state has lost $1.6 million acres of CRP land over the past six years. As communities expand, outdoor recreation areas aren`t keeping up.
They say they support any investment in the outdoors, and say the bills are a step in the right direction.
"If you were going to try to mitigate this loss of 1.6 million acres and you took $10 million, you could only sign up 18,000 acres under 10 year contracts. That investment is not at the scale of the problem out there," said Steve Adair with Ducks Unlimited.
He says the state is already behind the curve when it comes to investing in conservation, and he would like to see the legislature make a bold investment.
