Another item heading to the Governor`s desk deals with the use of open textbooks in the North Dakota University System. Lawmakers claim that students pay an average of $1,100 each year on textbooks. They say access to online textbooks is not only cheaper but it provides more learning tools.

"Because within the script of the open text there could be other links that the student`s could readily and quickly go to on a particular subject," said Senator Larry Luick (R) from Fairmount.

They also passed a resolution directing legislative management to study the use of open textbooks during the interim.
