Main Street Minute: Buffalo Commons and LaVon`s Hallmark | Video

Retha Colclasure | 3/11/2013

A new micro-brewery has publicly launched four new brews. Buffalo Commons brews in Mandan, and you can find it on tap at Peacock Alley. Owner Ted Hoffman has been working on the brewery for three years. He decided to pursue his dream after he was laid off from a manufacturing company.

"It all started many years ago when my wife bought me a kit that I prepared on the stove top and it was good. I liked it, it was easy. Just kinda built up my hobby from there to the point where I went from the stove top to out on the back deck to in the garage and now the 4,000 square foot facility," he said.

Buffalo Commons has a 15 barrel system so they can produce 480 gallons every 20 days. You can also find Buffalo Commons on tap at Reza`s Pitch in Bismarck.

LaVon`s Hallmark in Mandan is just a few weeks away from closing. Co-owner Kathy Stromstad says she`s looking forward to retiring. The store is on West Main Street in Mandan, and has been open for more than two decades. The building is now for sale.
