Game and Fish Sets Moose, Elk and Bighorn Sheep Seasons| 3/11/2013
This year, a total of 111 moose licenses will be available. This is 32 less than last year. Game and Fish says a decline in the moose population in the northeast part of the state is a concern. “Unit M1C will remain closed,” said Randy Kreil, Game and Fish Department wildlife chief. “And in addition, unit M4, which encompasses the Turtle Mountains, is also closed this year.”
All licenses this year will be for “any moose.” Game and Fish officials believe that this will help protect the cow segment of the population.
There will be a total of 261 elk licenses available this year, 40 fewer than the last year. There will be four bighorn sheep licenses this year, the same as last year.
