Even though the North Dakota Department of Transportation is out in full force when the weather conditions change, there have already been 19 fatalities in the state.
But, the DOT says it can only do so much to make the roads safe.
Now, the DOT is working with the government to make state highways even safer.
"Thanks to the legislature and the government, they passed some state funding during this session, so that we can get going on a 4-lane project for US 85 between Watford City and Williston, which will be $300 million and we will be able to begin working on that project this summer, as well as the bypass around Watford City,” said ND DOT Communication Director Peggy Anderson. “You know it`s always DOT`s mission to safely move people and goods and we`re dedicated to providing a transportation system that meets that goal."
When roads are slippery, Anderson recommends reducing your speed.
