St. Baldrick`s Boys | Video

Alan Miller | 3/12/2013

In just a few short years, St. Baldrick`s Day, which is dedicated to raise money for child cancer research, has grown astronomically. There are now huge community events where dozens of people get their heads shaved. And as we`re seeing this year, it doesn`t all happen on one day any more. But not everyone who wants to participate in the cause goes to the big events.

This is their last walk with a full head of hair. Cole Bakke and Nick Sanford raised more than $300 each by asking for donations on the phone and online. And now it was time to deliver on their pledge.

"I just thought it would be nice to lose all my hair on my own terms and not have to do it through chemotherapy, like a lot of people have to," said Nick, a ninth grader at Horizon Middle School.

Cole, also a Horizon ninth grader, added, "I just felt called to do this when I heard about this earlier in the year. I just thought, hey, I should do that. Make a change."

But it`s not just a quick shave. The stylists like to have a little fun. Cole gets worked on by his mother, one of the owners of Identity Salon. Nick thought he`d resemble Vin Diesel once he was done. Cole figured he`d be a dead ringer for Howie Mandel. Before you knew it, all the hair was on the floor, and the big event for the two friends was over.

"This is probably one of the smallest ones that I`ve attended but it`s been great to have two young men decide that they`re going to try to make a difference," said Vicki Kunz of MDU Resources, who was there to collect the pledges. "And it`s amazing what two people can do to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer."

So who do the boys really look like? How about Dr. Evil and Mini Me?
