Hunting License Bill Fails | Video

Jessica Roose | 3/18/2013

Supporters of a bill to suspend hunting licenses to those convicted of a crime failed to get enough support at the legislature. House Bill 1169 would have provided an option for the court to suspend the individual’s license for at least a year.

Opponents argued that people should not be sentenced based on their hobby, and that sentencing for the same crime should be the same to everyone.

Supporters said it could be a good way to deter people from criminal activity.

"As I said, it`s just one additional tool in the toolbox and in certain cases it may well be a motivating factor for people whose attention can not be gotten any other way," said Sen. Connie Triplett (D) Grand Forks.

Only ten senators voted in favor of the bill.
