Increase in ND Honey Production

North Dakota honey producers saw an increase from last year. According to the USDA, honey production in North Dakota last year totaled 34.2 million pounds, which is up five percent from 2011. There were almost half a million colonies last year, which was also an increase.

Prices for the crop last year averaged $1.89 per pound, which is a record. The price is up 22 cents per pound from the prior year. Total value of honey produced in 2012 was $64.6 million, up 18 percent from 2011.
