Williston Bomb Scare Update | Video

Evan Kruegel | 3/20/2013

A public records search has unveiled new information on the suspect accused of possessing a home-made bomb in Williston last Thursday. Williston police, along with the Minot bomb squad, used remote controlled cars along with an officer in an explosive-proof suit to respond to Oil States Energy Services regarding a possible bomb inside a black duffel bag.

An affidavit of probable cause reveals that Jordan Poindexter, 21, possessed a "bouncing-betty" explosive device, which was designed to spray shrapnel when exploded. Poindexter says he intended to study the pattern of the shrapnel explosion. The affidavit says Poindexter later informed police of various chemical combinations that could be used to make the explosive device work.

The bomb included a remote-detonation via cell-phone that could be used as a "fail-safe mechanism".

Poindexter told police he purchased all of the items used to make the device at True Value and Home of Economy.

The affidavit also states that Poindexter told officers he could "just not figure out the wiring" for the device.
