NDSU on NBC North Dakota Sports

Scott Westerberg | 8/15/2012

The games are all sold out, but you can still watch nearly every North Dakota State University football game from the comfort of your own coach this fall. The school announced today that NBC North Dakota Sports will carry nine of the 11 regular season games and the two sides also agreed to extend their television deal another three years.

The Craig Bohl show will continue at its normal time on Sunday mornings and there`s a new addition to our coverage, a full 30 minute live pregame show.

"We want extended coverage. We don`t just want game coverage. To have a 30 minute pregame show before every game, it`s a huge step for us and to have every game on for the first time in history, very exciting for North Dakota State University. It`s going to be a great football season and we look forward to it," said Jeremy Jorgenson.

"Well I think it`s huge. It`s been a vision for our department. We certainly appreciate the NBC affiliates across the state. Any time you can garner not only state, but regional exposure, that just helps promote our program. Many years ago people thought it would hurt ticket sales. In fact, we think it`s driven ticket sales. It`s a little bit of the Atlanta Braves factor," said Craig Bohl.

Former Valley News Live weekend sports anchor Brian Shawn will handle play-by-play duties. He`ll be joined in the booth by KFYR-TV Sports Director Lee Timmerman and former Bison quarterback Kevin Feeney, plus Fargo native and former Stanford QB Chris Berg will work the sidelines.

The Bison still have a lot of work to do before they hit the field for real. One of the big issues is finding a back-up for quarterback Brock Jensen. Right now it`s a 2-man race for the job between Bismarck High graduate Esley Thorton and Century alum Carson Wentz.

"Probably not making as much progress as what I would like. I thought we`d have a little bit more seperation right now. We are going to need to make and determine here fairly soon because we can`t keep splitting reps. I think both guys are making progress, but we`ve got to settle on a number two guy probably in the next day or so," Bohl said.

Thorton played sparingly as Jensen`s back-up last season, while Wentz was red-shirted.
