Cougars Play for Coach | Video

Jacob Kaucher | 8/15/2012

The kids in Rolette, Rolla, and Wolford have a little extra to play for on the football field.

The North Prairie Cougars are competing to honor their head coach Jeff Marty - who`s been deployed to Afghanistan - and will serve there the entire season.

Interim coach Pat Wilkes is stepping in to fill Marty`s shoes this year.

He`ll lead a relatively young group with underclassmen making up more than half the team.

The Cougs have the most experience on the line and are looking to develop some younger skill players.

"Some of the younger kids have definitely stepped up," Wilkes says. "They`re fighting for some spots. And they want to play. And some younger kids are stepping up and looking good."

North Prairie opens in Des Lacs against DL-B Friday August 24th at 7 p.m.
