Mystics Volleyball Recruiting Local | Video

Lee Timmerman | 8/16/2012

Just about all college coaches will tell you they want to recruit local first, Jeni Walsh has done it. The entire volleyball roster at Bismarck State comes from North Dakota.

The Mystics are a little over a week away from their first matches of the season. Since all of the athletes are from the state most already know or have already played along side each other.

Walsh says it shows during practice.

"I think the new faces in our guy of the eight freshman I think six are all-staters, high level, high caliber of ball being played in our gym right now."

"College volleyball is a lot different from high school. It`s a lot faster, it`s just quicker and you have to think really fast and it`s more athletic I guess and having coaches that know the game and technique really, really helps," said sophomore Taylor Wade.

With that athletic talent and togetherness comes higher expectations, Bismarck State acknowledges them and embraces them.

"I`m totally fine with the high expectations. You have high expectations you`re going to try to meet them so you`re going to work harder and you`ll do so much more to try to get there and I hope we do meet those goals because they`re high the goals are very high this year so hopefully we can reach them," said freshman Leslie Beaudoin.

"I think it`s OK. It`s always good to have high expectations and goals to reach and that`s what we`re working toward," Walsh said.

The Mystics first competition is in Fergus Falls on the 24th-&-25th at the Minnesota State CTC tournament.
