Demons Cross Country | Video

Lee Timmerman | 9/10/2012

The Demons have won the last seven state boys cross country championships and the last five individual titles also belong to BHS. This year will not be the exception. Bismarck has the top ranked team in the state and three of the top four rated individuals, plus another runner in the top 10.

"It`s been a nice reward for us to have the depth because if we`re missing somebody for a week or two guys somebody always seems to step in there and pick that opportunity up for themselves so that`s a real nice thing and it makes things competitive during the week for us and kids look forward to the weekend races and depth is nice. In this sport that`s not always the case so you have to appreciate it which we do," said co-head coach Darrell Anderson.

The Demons also appreciate they have one of the best runners in the country on their team, junior Jake Leingang.

"Jake understands there are days he`s going to run with the group and the kids know there are days Jake is not going to run with the group and that`s just the difference in the level between them. It`s not a bad thing. It`s a good thing and it keeps our kids realizing that they`re fortunate to be around a very talented kid. They enjoy the runs they have with him. They know he`s going to make them better," Anderson said.

Preston Lerew, Lane Kasher and Brandon Berg join Leingang in the top 10.
