Virgil Hill to be Inducted into International Boxing Hall of Fame

Hill is a five time world champion and he defended his title a record 20 times. He says despite his excellent record, the Hall of Fame announcement took him by surprise.
"It was a dream of my fathers for a very long time and my father passed a year ago in October with cancer. And we missed it by one year, but it was something that he really wanted even more than myself. I`ve never really been a stats guy so to me I just went out there and did my job."
There was a boxing boom in North Dakota thanks to Hill, he fought 26-times in the state with a number of them on national and world television.
"Obviously, his title defense are record-setting by themselves. But overall to me, I`ve never known an athlete or heard of an athlete that worked himself as hard as Virgil Hill worked. I mean it`s unbelievable what he put himself through and the dedication that he had to his sport and secondly the dedication he had to the state of North Dakota. He went out of his way to promote this state all over the world and so we`re just really thrilled for him that he gets this honor," said Hill`s former manager Bill Sorensen.
Virgil is 48 years old and he has a new boxing goal. Today, he said he plans to become the oldest world champion in boxing history and he will have another bout in North Dakota in the near future.
