Leingang Picks Oregon | Video

Scott Westerburg | 12/31/2012

When you`re one of the top high school cross country and track athletes in the country, you usually have a scholarship offer from a number of big time programs. That was the case for Jake Leingang and now the senior from Bismarck has made his choice. Leingang gave the University of Oregon his commitment just a few days ago. Jake`s final two schools came down to the Ducks and Oklahoma State. Leingang says his visit to Oregon this fall was a big reason for his decision.

"I went for a visit there and it felt really comfortable there. I really liked the team. The coaches are great and overall it`s just a great tradition there, and I feel that`s the best place that running can take me."

Leingang says he made the choice just a few days after Christmas, and didn`t give either Oregon or Oklahoma State any hints beforehand.

"He was really excited because both coaches knew I was deciding between which one. I wasn`t leaning toward either of them, so he was pretty excited to know. He wasn`t really sure where I was at throughout the whole process, so when I told him the news he was pretty happy."

Leingang will run both track and cross country at Oregon. Classes won`t begin there until September, but he will join the Ducks for a team camp this summer.
