Patriots Start 2-1 | Video

Lee Timmerman | 1/7/2013

Even with a couple big names lost to graduation, the Century boys basketball team is off to a solid start this year. Former Patriots Tom Fraase and Andre Maund are playing in college now. Despite that, the Patriots are off to a 2-1 start with wins against Williston and Mandan. Their lone loss coming to St. Mary`s.

"Well, I think the biggest thing is we`ve had great balance offensively and defensively. We`ve been solid. We just have to get better. We have a young crew, but they`re willing to work hard and sacrifice for each other. So to this point, we`ve been really happy with the way we`ve been playing," said head coach Darin Mattern.

"Our guard have been playing really well. I think overall as a team we`ve been playing really well with Coach Mattern and his system," said senior Hunter Walsh.

The hoopster has the Patriots finishing fourth in the WDA but players feel the strong intensity they`ve been bringing on the defensive side of the ball will make them a dangerous team to play against all season long.

"Defensive is our key point. We want to hold teams under 40s, 50s and then just get the ball on offense. Use the whole shot clock, get the ball inside out and just look for good shots don`t force anything and we`ll be good," said junior Tyler Rudolph.

The Patriots will be on the road tomorrow night against Dickinson.
