If you need to know anything about agriculture, you listen to Al Gustin.
Today, Gustin got behind a microphone and did what farmers and ranchers count on him to do everyday.
"Wheat prices are not only at historic levels, but the wheat market is moving an unprecendented amount every day," Gustin says.
He`s been the voice of agriculture in the region since 1968.
"You put a newscast together and deliver it, but every day the stories are different and everyday the people are different and we do markets every day, but the markets are different and every year you do stories about planting and harvesting, but every season is different," says Gustin.
Today was a little different, because while Gustin did everything he does every day, he was recognized for doing it for 40-years.
"He knows everything, that`s what I like about him, its not just the cattle industry, which he`s pretty much involved in, but it`s the grain," says Ivan Ellwein.
Gustin took a few minutes out of his hectic schedule this afternoon to be recognized for reaching a broadcasting milestone.
"I very much enjoy the chance to meet with farmers and ranchers, it is so gratifying when they say we couldn`t get by without you every day coming into our home and giving them the information they need for producing and marketing crops and livestock, and so at the end of the day if you feel like you`ve helped somebody in some way and especially with they say you have, that`s what makes all the difference," he says.
A difference he`s been making since 1968. He was farm director for KFYR-TV from 1970 to 2002. Five years ago he left television to concentrate full time on radio.
