Military workers, law enforcement officers, and even teachers are heroes in the eyes of many.

"I know how tough it is for these people to buy homes," said Blake Krabseth, Watne Realtors sales manager.

Watne Realtors works with many military and public service workers, and say many of them purchase homes with help from Veteran Affairs and have little money to put down. So, when Watne got a call from Homes for Heroes they didn`t hesitate to help out.

“Twenty-five percent of the commission ends up as a discount on their HUD statement reducing the purchase of their home,” said Krabseth.

Real estate agents provide rebates and discounts to local workforce heroes when buying or selling a home. Krabseth says they jumped on board because it`s a way for them to give back to those who serve our community.

“It`s a huge deal. American Bank Center is also doing the same thing with a discount on the home loans,” said Krabseth.

Homes for Heroes started out in Minnesota and North Dakota is the 24th state added to the list.

“We just wanted a way to give back to the community after 9/11, and little did we know that so many other people would like to give back as well,” said Mark Micek, Homes for Heroes founder.

Giving back and loosening the tight housing market for those everyday heroes.
