Main Street Minute: Southgate Crossing

If you've been driving along 16th street at the south end of Minot, you may have noticed all of the construction and new stores coming to town.

"Any place you drive around Minot today, you're seeing new buildings going up," said John MacMartin, President, Chamber of Commerce.

Construction crews have been working around the clock to bring new businesses into Minot as soon as possible. This summer, Minot will be welcoming Gordman's, Sonic, Pet Co, Shoe Carnival and Cashwise Grocery Store.

"On North Hill, with the marketplace expansion, there's stuff going on South Broadway," said MacMartin.

They're building all of this to accommodate the influx of people. "There is a fair amount of excitement that there is going to be this business or that business," said MacMartin.

At the same time, MacMartin says some may feel that Minot is changing too rapidly. And, while that's true, MacMartin suggests embracing the changes as they come. "Most businesses that I talk to you would rather see things going on the way they are today, growing. Instead of the way they were in the late 80s and 90s, when the economy was stagnant around here."

Minot's trade area is large and MacMartin says the more opportunities we give people to come shop in Minot, the better the Magic City will be.

These stores are hoping to open up late summer.
