Don't Buy It, Until We Try It: Magic Mesh

Posted: Updated:

With warmer weather, you're probably opening up your doors and windows more.  But, when you have your hands full, opening and closing the screen door can be difficult.  But, there may be a way to keep the fresh air in and all the bugs out, hands-free.

In this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Magic Mesh.

When you go to bring food outside your RV, you sometimes don't have enough hands to open and shut the door.  And, bugs usually get in.  Well, this may work a little better for you.  It's called Magic Mesh, and it promises to be a hands-free screen door, but will it really keep all the bugs out?  Well, don't buy it, until we try it.

Spring time in North Dakota means bugs are out in full-force, and while many RVs are equipped with screen doors, bugs still find their way inside.

"There's always a latch," said Magic City RV Manager Mike Klier.  "You have to push or pull to get in and out of a camper."

So, we decided to try out Magic Mesh, the hands-free screen door.

Klier said, "I'll just say the jury is out, so I'm curious to take it out of the box and check it out.  We'll all find out."

As we opened it up, everything fell out of the box.

"It's very light weight," said Klier.

And after looking over the instructions, there was a little assembly required.

We started by putting the adhesive strips around the frame of the door.

"Well, they're sticking onto this metal if you have something to properly attach them to," explains Klier.

Then it was time to attach the Magic Mesh.  You'll notice is goes up pretty easily.

We just secured the Magic Mesh in place.  Now we're going to walk through it to see if it actually stays in place.

Klier said, "In this case, I don't know if it did any better job than like the factory door, but it may be more convenient."

There are actually two different ways to install the Magic Mesh.  We only tried out the adhesive strips, but for more permanent use, you can use the wood tacks.  While the Magic Mesh stayed in place, it wouldn't necessarily be able to handle the strong North Dakota winds.

So this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs down.

If there are any "As Seen on TV" products you would like me to try out, email me at afox@kmot.com or leave me a message on the KMOT Facebook page.
