Demolition of Flooded Homes

Ward County is making progress in its effort to demolish flood damaged homes.

Earlier this week, Ward County commissioners approved the county's plan to bid out demolition projects. In total, there are 33 structures and foundations that needed to be removed.  Once those areas are cleared, they will become green space or areas that can never be built on again.  The areas would be used to increase levies along the river.

"We're definitely looking forward to getting the properties off, getting land back to a vegetative state, so we're not  having to secure them, worrying about break-ins, and maintaining the structures there until they're demolished.  So it would just be mowing in the end.  And long term, it would be permanent levis in some areas, as well," said Ward County assistant engineer Travis Schmit.

Flood-damaged structures purchased from Ward County must be removed from the land by July 15th.
