Sports Spotlight: Jeremy Keller

Posted: Updated:

Jeremy Keller has had an appreciation for racing going back to before he even got on the track.

"We started out racing here watching Shawn Strand, Mark Dahl, Marlin Seiler. I grew up watching them guys race in that class, and its pretty awesome to go out and compete with them now," says Keller.

Keller got his start 13 years ago, winning the championship in street stocks just two years later at Dacotah Speedway. His other accomplishments include capturing the Governors Cup in Late Models and finishing in the top ten in the Wissota National Points standings twice.

"He first started in street cars, and he came over to me for help. He, in fact, had two cars at one point. His dad was driving one, and he let me drive it one night, because he kept arguing a little bit about this won't work, this won't work. And I said, 'This is how this stuff works.' And I beat him that night with that spare car. And ever since then, he's been hooked on racing. He does a great job with it. In fact, he's teaching me a lot about it," says race car driver Brian Swenson.

The driver of the 11K was the mid season points leader in the modified class at Dacotah Speedway, and he's doing it with a new engine.

"This year, IMCA came out with a rule you could have a 604 crate engine. Basically, it's an engine you can get from a GM dealer, and it's 400 horsepower, and you get to run a spoiler if you get that engine. And that's about the only advantage you get to it. It's a more affordable. I just tried it to try it, because we didn't know how much we were going to race it. And it's turned out pretty good so far," says Keller.

When he's not on the track, Keller operates a cleaning business and likes spending time at home.

"Hanging out with my family, that's kind of the reason I'm doing modified this year. So I can stay closer to home. And I got a daughter at home and another kid on the way, so pretty much race, or work, or at home.
