Dickinson Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

Posted: Updated:

A Dickinson High School student is in the nation's capitol and she's not there to see the sights.

Mandy Marboe's artwork was chosen as the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.

The pastel chalk painting titled "Determination" was unveiled yesterday and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year.

Marboe wasn't sure she would make it to D.C. for the event but the community surprised her with over $1,200 dollars in donations to make it possible.

"They told me to come into the auditorium, and all my teachers were there and I thought oh, shoot I'm in trouble. And they raised all that money for me. I don't know it's crazy that all the teachers would care so much that they would do that for one student," says Marboe.

"Well it's the best of North Dakota right here," says Congressman Kevin Cramer.

Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in next year's competition. For more information, visit cramer.house.gov/services/art-competition.
