HIV Numbers are Up in North Dakota

Posted: Updated:

More than one million Americans are HIV positive. And in North Dakota, the Health Department has diagnosed 16 people so far this year, compared to 17 in all of 2012.

That's why health experts urge people to get tested every year.

"HIV is not the death sentence that it once was. With early intervention and early treatment, people are able to live healthy and productive lives well into their old age," says Lindsey VanderBusch, ND Department of Health.

You are more at risk for HIV if you have unprotected sex, share needles or engage in unsanitary tattooing and body piercing.
