Burleigh County Extension Office Hosts Horticulture Power Hour

Posted: Updated:

It's hard to believe that in just a few months, Papa's Pumpkin Patch will be bursting with activity. Dave Pearce's business has grown a lot over the past 30 years, and now he's telling other entrepreneurs how he did it.

"We're talking about something for me. I'm passionate anyway. I love what it is I do. Somebody once said if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life, and I find that to be true," says Pearce.

Ray Utter is considering starting an agribusiness and is looking for inexpensive ways to get it off the ground.

"The biggest thing that he brought on was who is going to be buying your goods and services and what can you do to make them happen," says Utter.

Others say they aren't planning on going into business but are always looking for new ways to make their garden grow.

"Being able to realize which are reliable resources and which are not reliable resources and if you use the universities and the extension services as resources those are pretty legit and you can't go wrong with them," says volunteer gardener Larry Roth.

Each session focuses on a different topic.

"They're going to focus on trees. They're doing another more specific one to gardens and harvest and that's probably gonna go on later in July when fertilizer is going to be critical and the same with insect control," says Pearce.

The sessions are from 12 until 1 every Monday in July, and all feature an expert in their field.
