Dickinson Named a Top 10 Small Town

Posted: Updated:

Livability.com has named its Top 10 Small Towns of 2013, and Dickinson is at the top of the list.

The list is the second installment in an annual listing of towns sprinkled between the major highways and busy airports.

Editors narrowed their search to micropolitan areas. They considered population and economic growth rates, comparing employment trends, cost of living and other economic factors. They also looked at each town's overall quality of life, factoring in those intangible assets such as community spirit, good schools and historic preservation.

"There are many towns in the United States that have small-town charm but that are part of larger metro areas," says Livability.com spokesman Matt Carmichael. "This year we decided to focus our list on small towns that stand on their own. What they lack in size they make up for in unique amenities, as well as business opportunities."

Other nearby cities on the list include Brookings, SD and Alexandria, MN.
