Sanford Opens New Children's Clinic

Sanford is putting the finishing touches on a brand new Children's Clinic in Bismarck.

"Bismarck is growing north. The parking issues and everything downtown, this will give easy access to our patients," says Sanford Pediatric Clinic manager Patty Flohr.

But what really sets this clinic apart from any other hospital setting is the decor.

"It does not look so much like a clinic. It looks like an amusement park. A child is more likely to go to a castle.  Oh, let's go to a hospital, no.  Let's go to a castle and see Dr. Kumar, ok," says pediatrician Dr. Parag Kumar.

Dr. Kumar is one of four Sanford pediatricians who will work in the brand new clinic.

He says having a child-friendly atmosphere will distract kids during routine visits, keeping their minds off of immunizations, and also keep children separate from sicker patients they might run into in a traditional hospital setting.

"If you are going to the hospital, you always worry about hospital acquired infections, running into somebody," says Dr. Kumar.

Here, even the play areas are made with infection control in mind. They're easy-to-clean, non-porous surfaces. And there's more space for patients to spread out.

"The rooms are definitely bigger, the exam rooms provide more space for the children.  The whole area now that we have the physician's offices and exam rooms, they're all in one hallway," says Flohr.

The clinic will open on July 8.
