Police Remind Residents Fireworks Are Prohibited in City Limits

Posted: Updated:

In cities where fireworks are illegal, police usually have their hands full on the Fourth of July. And, the Minot Police Department was no exception.

They received 57 firework-related calls between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

One of those calls was a grassfire out by Minot International Airport. No was injured, and the fire was contained quickly.

In addition, officers patrolled residential areas and found that many out of state residents were shooting fireworks within the city limits.

Because many were not aware of the city ordinance, officers first gave them a warning.

"People need to understand that they are illegal in the city of Minot. To possess and to light. So, I think today is going to be a different enforcement action than yesterday was," says Tim Gates, Minot Police Department.

Violators can be issued a fine of $150.
