Family Identifies John Swain's Body

Posted: Updated:

A Sioux Falls couple says a body found in a Montana home last month was their son, John Swain.

Swain, 18, went missing from his Bismarck home in May. His parents tell KSFY it was just months after he moved out of his family home in Sioux Falls.

Swain's body was flown back to Sioux Falls over the weekend. His family says a visitation will be held Friday, July 26 at Sioux Falls Christian School. A funeral has been scheduled for Saturday, July 27.

The Swains adopted John from China when he was three years old. John attended Sioux Falls Christian since kindergarten. He was on track to graduate this year until he turned 18.

"His birthday is March 15th, and he turned 18 and quit going to school, quit going to work," his mother Pat Swain said in an interview in June. "When he turned 18, he grew 10 feet tall, was invincible, knew everything and was going to conquer the world."

Before John moved out of his home, his father asked him to stay in Sioux Falls.

"He got ready to leave, and I stopped him here in the hall and I said, 'You know, John, you don't have to leave. I didn't kick you out. You always have a home here. And I want to you know before you leave, I love you.' He said, 'I love you, too, Dad,' and he gave me a little kiss right here," his father David said.

Last month, Bismarck Police arrested Theo Crowe, 25, and Joshua Clark, 20, for John's murder. Swain's body was found at a Poplar, MT home belonging to Crowe's grandmother.

Court documents show the men beat Swain to death with a hammer, dismembered his body, hid it and then cleaned up the crime scene.
