Head Start Unveils Plans for New Williston Facility

Posted: Updated:

Head Start is about to get a fresh start in Williston.

The program was kicked out of it's building last year so the school district could re-open McVay Elementary. Directors couldn't find any available buildings for this past school year, so classes were held in the New Hope Wesleyan Church and  Concordia Lutheran Church. This fall, Head Start will unveil a facility just behind the previous location on a parcel of land donated by the Parks and Recreation Department.

"It brings us to tears just to know that the program will continue in the community, and when I think about this program having been here 40 plus years in the community, and how many children have benefits from it, there's research that supports head start and pre schooling programming saying it eventually saves the tax payer $7.00 for every dollar that is spent," says Head Start coordinator Christine Beck.

Mayor Ward Koeser says the building is a great sign for the community.

"Head Start is a wonderful program. It truly does give the kids involved a head start, and we all need that. So I appreciate it, a great organization that fills a great need in our community. So we're excited today that they are going to get their own facility."
