Sports Spotlight: David Falkenstein

Posted: Updated:

David Falkenstein isn't a driver looking for the spotlight.

"I'm kind of more a quiet guy. I'm not too rowdy. I don't get too crazy, at least I try not to. I'm more of the quiet racer I guess," says David.

David in his in 20th year behind the wheel. He took up the sport when he was fresh out of Wilton High School.

"We had an old car in high school. It was a little old Ford Mustang, and we just wanted to do something with it. I always liked racing. Nobody in my family really did it. My family worked on cars and stuff, but we just kind of dreamt it up and thought, 'We should try.' And we've just been having a blast ever since," says David.

"It was a learning experience and we learned a lot and as a family we always supported it," says his father Larry.

The driver of Number 92 races in the street stock class, but got his start in hobbies. And it was in 2004 when Falkenstein took home the Hobby Stock Track Championship at Dacotah Speedway.

"It's indescribable when you actually get to that point, and you basically beat everyone else for the whole year. It's unbelievable really. It's a good feeling definitely."

"It was fun to try and see him try and get him into first place and cheer him on a little bit," says his brother Steven.

Falkenstein finished third in the street stock standings last year, picking up one feature win. And this season, he sits near the top again.

He says his family is always there to support him.

"My wife, my parents are always here. My brother is here. My dad and brother have been in the pit ever since I started, and my mom has ben in the stands ever since we started. And it's a family thing," says David.

And if Falkenstein wins a Street Stock title, it's more than likely his family will be right there along side to celebrate.
