Bismarck Woman Wins Humanitarian Award

Posted: Updated:

Nan Johnson lives to serve others and says in the time she's served as the site manager for Crescent Manor, she's never wanted to stay home from work.

"It's like Fourth of July. It's like a great big gathering everyday. Like you have your whole family here and yeah it's fun," says Johnson.

Which is one of the many reasons her daughter felt compelled to nominate her for the 2013 Humanitarian award, given by the city of Bismarck.

"She pays attention more than anything and I think despite how busy everybody is now she's one of the few people who takes time to notice others. I think that represents a humanitarian," says Dot Frank.

Residents of the senior community range from in their 50's to nearly a hundred years old and many of them gathered to watch Johnson receive her award. But even that she says she's doing for them.

"I think that there are people just as deserving as I. But I did want to recognize all the people here because I do love them, and I know they love a celebration. So, I thought I'll accept," says Johnson.

"My mom is an incredible inspiration. I think for me and my entire family. I got two younger brothers and because of the way we were brought up I think it's lead us to get where we are today," says Frank.

And she's happy to share her mom with the rest of the community.
