Minot Kite Festival

Posted: Updated:

Birds... Bugs and planes *weren't* the only things soaring the skies above Minot today.

Kites of every shape and size were soaring in the Magic City for Minot's 2nd annual Kite Festival. Kite enthusiasts of every age were at Maysa Arena to take advantage of the strong North Dakota winds.  Kite vendors were on hand and this year features some new kites like a 50 foot wind sock.  Last year 3000 people attended.  Festival coordinators hope the event will promote the hobby across the state.

"It's a lot of fun," says Festival Coordinator, Paul Luetzen. "The kids enjoy it, and it's fun turning the kids onto it, showing them how to do it."

"We're putting this on for the people of Minot," says Event Coordinator, Rollie Metz. "We just appreciate that everyone has come out to show their support, come out fly a kite.  Have fun with the whole family.  As long as the people want it, we'll continue to do it year after year, as long as we can."

North Dakota has more kite festivals than any other state in the country.  The second day of the festival kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 AM at Maysa Arena.
