Veterinarian Says Infections Can Transfer from Pets

Posted: Updated:

Just like you can catch a cold from another person,  you can also catch things from your pets.

Dr. Michelle Merwin says there are a wide range of fungal, bacterial and even parasitic diseases that you can get from your furry friend.

"It's very common. Those small animals, young animals don't have very good immune systems and are very susceptible to those kinds of things, As they age, though, and their immune system gets better, then they tend to clean up," says Dr. Michelle Merwin, Core Animal Clinic.

If you think your pet has a fungal infection, Dr. Merwin suggests making a trip to the vet's office. But, as the owner, if you are experiencing anything unusual on your skin, you should contact your doctor, as well.
