Construction Begins on 6th Street Underpass

Posted: Updated:

It's been a long time coming, but work on the 6th Street Underpass project is finally ready to begin. And drivers should expect some traffic delays during the next couple of months.

On Thursday, the City of Minot will begin work along 6th Street Southwest. Detours will affect portions of Central Avenue, Burdick Expressway, and 2nd Avenue Southwest near the intersection.

"Well, certainly, it's going to be a minor inconvenience for the folks.  They need to take the detour and that kind of thing.  But, in the end, it's going to save so many people heartache of the day after it rains or in the springtime when the melts come to get underneath that underpass.  It's going to allow for taller vehicles to get under there.  So, in the end, a minor detour is going to be a much better thing for everyone in this area," says City of Minot public information officer Bob Lindee.

Lindee says the underpass will not be open until the end of October.
