Bismarck and Mandan Continue to See Economic Growth

Posted: Updated:

As we look at where we are at today and where we anticipate the future for our community, we see nothing but great things happening.  And that's partly because Bismarck and Mandan banks were able to stay solid and true to many of their lending practices during the 2008 recession.

"We did not have a large sub-prime mortgage issue. We did not have a housing downturn, like we saw in other places. And at the same time, we saw the oil economy really ramping up out west," says Bismarck-Mandan Chamber President Kelvin Hullet.

Locally, Bismarck and Mandan are expanding in key areas, like healthcare, the manufacturing industry, and local business development.

"It seems like we never had  the dips that the rest of the country had, but we never had those peaks either. Now, we have peaks. We're growing, and it's just tremendous growth which is fun. Going into business and seeing this kind of growth is just fun. It's a pleasure to come in to work everyday," says Ace Hardware owner Jeff Hinz.

Hullet says as Bismarck, and especially Mandan, look towards the future, both communities are expected to continue their growth.

"When they get the Walmart open and the new school, and they have a new St. Alexius clinic over there on the interchange, that whole area is just going to take off," says Hullet.

From the booming oil industry out west to expanding businesses right here in Bismarck and Mandan, there's no surprise why our state comes out on top in terms of economic growth.
