Minot All-Stars Prepare For Babe Ruth State Tournament

Posted: Updated:

Baseball in the Magic City has a strong tradition from tee-ball all the way up to the Vistas. One of those groups, the Babe Ruth team, has their biggest weekend of the year coming up.

Corbett Field is hosting the state tournament starting Friday. It's the first major baseball tournament at the field since the flood and the Minot All-Stars are ready to defend their home.

"We started out very slow in the month of June. For whatever reason, we just couldn't get our bats going, pitching, defensively we struggled. We got better in July. We went on a nice little streak. I think we went 7-8, so I think we're starting to slowly turn the corner. And that's what you want to do come state tournament, you wanna be playing your best baseball," says coach Creighton Bachmeier.

The WDA slipped away from Minot, but they're using that as motivation heading into tomorrow. They play Grand Forks in the first round, a team they've already beaten this year.

"We know the east side is always pretty good, and if we come out and play like we did a couple games ago, we'll be fine," says Eli Stewart.

"The beginning of our order is good. I think the back end, like, other teams in the east, they hit all up and down their order and we need to do that," says Easton Bennett.

Four games are on the schedule tomorrow starting with Bismarck against Devils Lake followed by Williston against Fargo, Dickinson versus West Fargo, and it all caps off with Minot against Grand Forks.
