New Housing Options

Posted: Updated:

Take a drive through western North Dakota, and you will see all kinds of different work force housing options.

Man camps, RVs, and trailers are some of the most common, but one company is going against the grain.

Elk Ridge is building work force housing that you will never see, unless you live there.

The first building in the Elk Ridge subdivision opened today. It's located just off Highway 2, halfway between Williston and Alexander. Moser Energy Systems will call the new building home.

"The ability to have, rather than rent, to own a shop allows us to service all our customers throughout North Dakota," said Vice President of Moser Energy Systems Jakob Norman.

This building isn't your regular office. There is a warehouse for company storage, across the hall are the offices, but what makes the building unique is upstairs.

"Apartment style living above the office space. Everybody is going to have their own bed, their own room. Then they have an open area they can watch TV on, in addition to a full kitchen and baths," said President of Elk Ridge Eric Ditter.

There are four apartments upstairs, and they will be used for employee housing. Ditter says they brought this idea from the east coast, and have high hopes for this style of building in the Bakken.

"I believe that we're probably a little bit of a test case here, but doing it responsibly when you dint have to do it responsibly is the best way to gain every bodies trust," added Ditter.

Ditter says his company believes in the community atmosphere, and that's why they are bringing more housing to the Elk Ridge Subdivision.

"What we believe is, expanding this community into more of the residential and potentially even a restaurant out here, right off of 41st," Ditter added.

Norman is excited his company is going to be located in the number one drilling county in North Dakota.

"The ability to have our guys sleep upstairs from the same place they'll be dispatched from, not only gives them a higher quality of life but it increases our timely response to customers," added Ditter.

Norman is hoping to move into the building in the next 2-4 weeks.
