Neighborhood Watch Starting in Surrey

Posted: Updated:

With more people moving to North Dakota, that means small towns are growing quickly.  And, while they are still safe communities, you can never be too prepared for unexpected incidents and situations.

That's why the Surrey Police Department is introducing a Neighborhood Watch Program to encourage the community to get involved in crime prevention and detection.

So, when it comes to addressing crime in the community, they are hoping to be more proactive instead reactive.

"We're driving through the area setting out, we see a garage door open, and we're going to try to make contact with that homeowner that night.  If they're not around, then, we're going to leave a notice saying hey, this is what we noticed.  It's a potential for, you know, a theft: somebody coming and stealing if from you.  And, try to correct the problem," said Surrey Police Chief Pete Schneider.

The meeting will start at 7 pm on Thursday night at Surrey City Hall.
