Main Street Minute: Wagner's Wagon

Posted: Updated:

If you've been to the State Fair grounds at all this week, you may have tasted some of the fair food at all the different vendors.

But, there is a stand tucked away in the Commercial 2 building that reminds you of baking in the kitchen with Grandma.

"We always look for ‘Oh, that's just like my Grandma used to make.' That's what we're looking for and we hear that a lot," says Nick Wagner of Wagner's Wagon.

Nick and Patty Wagner pride themselves on cooking up homemade sweet treats. But, not just any kind of baked goods. They're cookin' kuchens.

"Basically it's custard. And, then you put it inside sweet dough. And, you put different fruits in it. So, you can have your peaches and apples and blueberries," says Wagner.

The Wagner's started out with just 6 kuchens. Now, they worked their way up to 22 different flavors and even their newest one, the bacon kuchen.

The Wagner's have been serving kuchen to hungry customers for about 10 years. But the idea of whipping up these kuchens, is all thanks to couple's grandmothers.

"And, so they're recipes that Patty has evolved using new products now because you can't get milk and things like that Grandma use to use," says Wagner.

In addition, to the kuchens, the Wagner does also make fudge, coffee and tea mixes and much more.

They'll be here all 9 days of the fair in the Commercial 2 Building.
