Downtown Association Seeks to Revitalize Downtown Dickinson

Posted: Updated:

With money waiting in the wings to help revamp downtown, members of the Downtown Association want to develop a specific plan of action to help create a buzz.

"They can construct a public plaza, a new building here, new building there but if there's no excitement, no energy, no events to bring people downtown and take advantages of those new opportunities, it won't work," says Dickinson Chamber of Commerce executive director Cooper Whitman.

For starters, the association will create a new identity.

"Ultimately, we want to revitalize downtown. I think one of our first steps is creating a brand and what downtown means to us and our community so we need to create the brand of what downtown Dickinson is," says Lilian's of Dickinson owner Cami Havelka.

Initial goals haven't been set yet, because the downtown association is in its early stages but one thing members of the association do know is that they always want to be on the same page as city administrators. Unity is key.

"I hope it will become a consensus builder. A kind of place to go for unity to make sure that we are all staying on the same page," says Whitman.

While the association is roughly three months away from putting a plan to action, members are confident the community will band together.

"People who live in this community are proud of being here and proud of what Dickinson has to offer. All the way around this is going to be another piece to the puzzle," says business owner Kristi Schwartz.
