North Dakota Author Returns Home

Posted: Updated:

A Minot native makes her way back to town to debut her new children's book at Barnes and Noble.

‘I can smell the alfalfa in the air,' was one of the first things author Theodora Klein-Carroll said Wednesday afternoon while signing her two children's books at Barnes and Noble.

"Our farm had crops and livestock, we grew our own garden. Whatever we grew was what we lived on," says Klein-Carroll.

Born and raised on a rural North Dakota farm, Klein-Carroll knows a little bit about planting seeds and what kind of weather it takes for crops to grow.

"Our livelihood depended on the weather patterns. So, rain to me is very important, as it is to the world because without rain, it depends on how much food we have and our water supply," says Klein-Carroll.

The native North Dakota author released her first children's book, Tippy the Raindrop, based on a raindrop that's determined to make flowers blossom.

Klein-Carroll's second book, Tippy the Runaway Cloud is now on the shelves and continues to share the same theme about never giving up and helping those in need.

"This book was inspired from my upbringing on the family farm. Tippy in this book is a little westerner, he actually becomes a little cowboy," says Klein-Carroll.

Tippy tracks down a cloud that has runaway from its corn plants before giving them the rain they need to grow.

"The endings are uplifting, so in the end I hope that all children will understand how important rain and weather patterns are in a fun, natural way," says Klein-Carroll.

Both books are on the shelves at the Minot Barnes and Noble.
