Main Street Minute: Budget Music

Posted: Updated:

A business that's made South Broadway it's home for over 25 years relocates to downtown Minot.

"Record stores were a unique thing then as they are now. I mean it comes full circle," says Dylan Lee, Budget Music.

In a way, all things that were once old become new again. That's at least how Manager Dylan Lee feels.

"Music does a good job selling itself. It's probably the only thing that really brings people back to a place and a time," says Lee.

Once you hear a song, Lee says the music has a way of taking you back to the first time you've heard it.

"I'll be listening to something I heard ten, twenty years ago, and I'll pop it on and all these memories come flooding back. I think that's really unique to music. It helps people remember," says Lee.

But if the song or artist is right on the tip of your tongue, there is no need to worry because the employees are here to help. And if you bring in a lyric of two, they can help you find exactly what you're looking for.

"We'll manage to find it for them and when they purchase it anyway, to see the smile on their faces really makes this a worth while job. That's something great. You got to make somebody's day."

They hope to keep that same rhythm in their new location.

Budget Music opened in 1977 just as a record store. But, to meet the needs of their customers, they began selling 3D posters, vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, jewelry and even clothing.
