Hope Village

Posted: Updated:

Another positive sign that Minot is returning to normal today. Drivers were hauling mobile housing units at Hope Village off the grounds.

These mobile housing units served the volunteers well in the recovery process after the 2011 flood.

And, now they are off to Nebraska to help other people in need of disaster relief.

But just because the Hope Village camp is closing down, doesn't mean there isn't work left to do.

"We have a couple dozen families yet that need to get out of FEMA trailers to get back into their homes, so, those are obviously on the forefront for us," says Steve Carbno, Hope Village Coordinator.

Carbno continues to say, that last year they were averaging about 125 to 150 volunteers rebuilding homes each week. But this week...

"We have 18 here. So, again that equates to certainly a lot less getting done," says Carbno.

 But they're not losing hope.

"We're going to have to start getting creative to make this happen. Come end of October I fully expect that all of the resources that you see here for the camp Hope Village will be gone. But, the banner Hope Village will still be flying and we'll still be helping those people."

Hope Village has impacted about 550 homes since the 2011 flood. And, it's all been volunteer labor.

"It's the people that have come from 42 different states, from 4 Canadian providences, that make you feel like your part of something pretty big," says Carbno.

Carbno says the volunteers' recovery process won't stop until they get residents back into their homes.
