Football Players Beat the Heat

Posted: Updated:

It's the first day of school for students in Bismarck. And it's a hot one.

It's even hotter for those who have been spending part of the day outside, like high school football players. Coaches say this kind of weather requires extra attention. They keep a close eye on the athletes to make sure they aren't suffering.

"We have all of our student managers going around, so the athletes are getting water at will whenever they want.  You just go to be real smart and make sure that you address the weather conditions, and they've gotta stay hydrated throughout the practice," says Century High School football coach Ron Wingenbach.

He says on the hotter days, they spend more time talking, and less time being active.
