Work Camp Comes to McClusky

Posted: Updated:

The population of McClusky is less than 500. But longtime residents say there's still room to grow here.

"We have less people but were starting to get more people in our community because of I think the oil fields," says Joan Lasher.

The oil industry isn't the reason a work camp will soon be moving into town.  New transmission lines are being constructed across the state and that means workers are coming in to help.

"You know they're hard working guys. They get up in the morning go home, go to bed. They're so tired after 12-15 hour days," says Sherry Korus.

They'll be staying at a Target Logistic Crew camp that will be set up next week. Residents say those workers will transform this empty lot into a work camp will be good for business.

"We're not real sure of how many meals they'll actually eat out or anything but I'm sure we'll see some," says Korus.

There was just one concern among some of those living in McClusky.

"I think they'll be fine. With the exception of I belong with the ambulance squad. We're looking at the idea that we're low in numbers for response people and we just figure you know what happens we'll have to take care of," says Jeanne Saueressig.

Around 80 workers will be living out of the work camp located in the trailer park in town. The workers will be constructing transmitting lines that will run from Center to Grand Forks.
