Advertising drives demand. It keeps customers coming in to places like McDonald's. There are many ways to promote new products but this is the latest method. Cars covered with the golden arches. And in just a couple of days, it's generated plenty of buzz.
"I haven't done anything that got this much excitement, and it just started, in a long, long time. So I have a feeling this is going to be around for a while. They do it on buses, they do it on cabs. We've never done it on private cars. So something new," says McDonald's franchise owner Denny Sotebeer.
Sotebeer owns eight franchises in Bismarck, Mandan, and Minot. And he's hired 36 drivers for the next two months, paying them a hundred dollars a month just to be visible. They don't have to do any more driving than they normally would.
"I do a lot of driving in the first place due to my kids' activities and stuff, so I guess I bring in a lot of publicity and that, so," says driver Corie Eagleson.
The advertising company, called Advercar, has also placed a GPS system on each car. That will show if the rolling billboards are adequately covering each corner of each city.
Advertisers want their money's worth, so before these labels came on, all the drivers got a free car wash.
The campaign has already turned the drivers into mini-celebrities.
"You know, I already noticed it. People are kind of looking at your car and trying to see what you're looking at. I'm like, what's going on, and I realize I have stickers on my car. I kind of forget that they're there," says driver Becki Walterson.
This has been done frequently along the east coast but Sotebeer says he's the first franchise owner in the Midwest to do it.
